Panchayat
Athiyannoor Panchayat is a region where, at one time, the feudal system, landlordism, and the practices of untouchability and unapproachability were rampant. During the national freedom struggle, Mahatma Gandhi visited this village on January 14, 1937, and addressed a massive public meeting held at Uruttukala. This area was the sphere of activity for Veera Raghavan, who attained heroic martyrdom during the "Neyyattinkara firing" incident. Swadeshabhimani Ramakrishna Pillai—who wielded his pen as a weapon against the British Empire, the monarchy, and corruption—was born at 'Kudillamele Veedu' in the 11th Ward of Athiyannoor Panchayat. Numerous libraries and arts and sports clubs operate within this panchayat.
