History of Grama Panchayat
Once a region where feudalism, landlordism, untouchability, and unseeability reigned supreme, Athiyannoor Panchayat holds a historic past. During the national freedom movement, Mahatma Gandhi visited this countryside on January 14, 1937, and addressed a massive public gathering at Uroottukala. This region was also the center of activity for Veera Raghavan, who attained heroic martyrdom in the historic "Neyyattinkara Firing." Furthermore, Swadeshabhimani Ramakrishna Pillai—who wielded his pen as a sword against the British Empire, royal rule, and corruption—was born at Kudillamele Veedu in the 11th ward of Athiyannoor Panchayat.
Today, numerous libraries and arts & sports clubs function in this panchayat. Venpakal Pre-Primary School and Avanakuzhi Government LPS are among its earliest educational institutions. Kamukinkode St. Mary's HSS, Desabandhu Library (established in 1957), Deshabhivardhini Library (established in 1958), and Prabodhini Library (established in 1955) stand as the primary educational and cultural landmarks of the region.
Athiyannoor Panchayat was officially formed in 1953. P. Chellayyan served as the president and M. Kumara Pillai as the vice president of the first committee of Athiyannoor Panchayat, which encompasses Athiyannoor village in Neyyattinkara Taluk.
